Slow juicer or blender?
Slow juicer - the most important information
A slow-speedjuicer is a device that extracts juice by crushing (rather than cutting) the ingredients. Its main component is an auger shaft, which works extremely slowly, so it does not heat or oxidize the drink. The technology used in slow-speed juicers ensures that the juice retains all its nutrients. This device consists of:
- feeder (designed to be completely safe for users),
- an auger shaft (made of extremely durable materials),
- sieve or filters (responsible for separating juice and pulp),
- the bowl (it is into which the juice is squeezed),
- rotary wiper (thanks to it, blockages are avoided, during juice production),
- the body.
Application of slow-speed juicers
With a slow-speed juicer you can prepare juice from fruits, vegetables, as well as green plants such as spinach, kale or lettuce. However, that's not all! Many devices are also equipped with additional accessories. Thanks to them, the juicer becomes an extremely versatile device. With its help you will make ice cream, nut milk, sorbets and even pasta. Among the most interesting accessories are:
- citrus squeezer,
- ice cream attachment,
- juice density adjustment handle,
- a mold for tofu.
Types of slow juicers
There are many slow juicers available on the market today. They differ not only in the manufacturer, but also in the type of mechanism used. You can distinguish:
- single-screw squeezers - these are models equipped with a single shaft that slowly rotates, so that all the nutritional values in the juice are retained. These are devices with a simple design, the cleaning of which is extremely easy,
- twin-screw ju icers - have two rollers that slowly crush the ingredients, producing full-flavored juice. They are perfect for squeezing grasses, herbs and leafy vegetables,
- citrus squeezers - these are devices adapted to a specific group of products. With their help you will squeeze lemons, grapefruit, limes or oranges. They are small, so they will fit into any kitchen (their capacity is from 0.2 to 1 liter).
Juicers are also divided into vertical and horizontal juicers. They differ not only in construction, but also in the way they work. In the first of the aforementioned types of juicers, the screw shaft is arranged in a vertical manner. Thanks to this, it evenly and slowly crushes fruits or vegetables. This mechanism allows you to get the maximum amount of juice rich in valuable fiber. Horizontal juicers have an extremely efficient mechanism, which, however, requires human assistance. All the ingredients need to be pushed towards the roller with a special pusher, which is a simple, intuitive, but time-consuming operation.

Blender - the most important information
Blenders are extremely versatile devices. Their name clearly indicates what their main purpose is. The English word blend simply means to mix. However, this is not all that these appliances offer. With their help you can shred and grind products. Some blenders are also equipped with additional attachments that allow you to whip, mix and even knead dough. Their standard mechanism is based on blades rotating at high speed. Usually there are two pairs of appropriately curved knives, which make it possible to thoroughly chop products. The blender consists of:
- a module with a motor,
- blades (mounted in the attachment or in the tip),
- the blending container (this applies to cup blender and personal blender).
The use of the blender
The blender not only surprises with its small size, but also with its multitude of applications. That is why it is so often chosen by people who care about a healthy lifestyle. It is the perfect device for athletes, moms preparing smoothies and mousses for their children, as well as vegetarians, who can easily make meatless dishes with it. With the blender you will make, among other things:
- cocktail,
- smoothie,
- ice cream,
- sandwich paste,
- tomato puree,
- hummus,
- pesto,
- purée,
- soup.
Types of blenders
Blenders are divided into:
- hand bl enders - these are small devices that you can fit in any drawer. They are built from a cap with a motor and a tip, in which the blades are placed. While blending, you need to hold it constantly in your hand, which on the one hand is a nuisance, but on the other hand allows you to have full control over the food being prepared,
- cup blenders - this is a device whose blades are mounted at the bottom of the cup. After peeling and chopping the ingredients, you just need to cover the container and turn on the device. Then the blender will automatically handle the processing of fruits and vegetables,
- personal blenders - this is equipment in which the blending container is also a bidon. Thus, after chopping the ingredients, you just need to put the lid with a mouthpiece to take the drink with you to work or school.

Blender or juicer - which to choose?
Deciding which is better: a slow-speed juicer or a blender is not as simple as it may seem. These devices have many features in common. At the same time, they differ in many respects. To make the choice easier: blender or slow juicer, we have prepared a brief summary of the most important aspects to look at before buying.
Application
Both devices allow you to create a drink from soft and juicy ingredients such as fruits (e.g. bananas, apples) or leafy plants (e.g. spinach, kale). Unfortunately, the blender performs much worse with hard vegetables (e.g. carrots, beets) and herbs. In this aspect, slow juicers are much more versatile.
It is also worth noting that the standard product of a blender is a smoothie, i.e. a drink created from fruits/vegetables and a liquid ingredient such as water, milk, yogurt or kefir. A juicer, on the other hand, produces juice, consisting only of fruits and vegetables, so it contains much more nutritional value.
An important issue regarding the use of a blender or juicer is also the available adapters. In the case of a blender, only the handheld version is enriched with attachments that allow you to mix dough or whip egg whites. Squeezers are much more likely to have additional attachments that allow you to squeeze lemon juice, make pasta or prepare milk from plants.
Use
On the surface, it might seem that blenders are much easier to use. In most cases, all you have to do is put the products into the container and turn on the device. However, it is not so quick and easy. All products thrown into the blender should be peeled, de-seeded and chopped. This is extremely time-consuming! This problem does not exist with slow-speed juicers. Many of them have large feed holes that allow you to put in whole fruits or vegetables. They also don't need to be peeled. If the peel is edible, the juicer will handle it perfectly, plus it will take the best from it (the juice will be enriched with vitamins and minerals). Importantly, there are more and more juicers on the market that are easy to use - sometimes you only need to press one button.
Properties of the drink
The health properties of the drink do not depend only on the ingredients that are used in its production. Equally important is the method of preparation. In this aspect, slow juicers have a definite advantage, as they do not chop the products, but crush them. In addition, thanks to the fact that the process is extremely slow, there is no aeration and heating of the drink. All this makes the juice rich in vitamins and other nutrients. As a result, it nourishes and hydrates the body more, and also has a positive effect on the digestive process.
Cocktails created with a blender are denser, as the products are only crushed, the juice and pulp are not separated. As they are denser, it is a good idea to add water or milk to them
Cleaning
Cleaning the machine is another important issue. No one likes to waste time at the sink. Cleaning hand blenders is extremely quick and easy. More problems are caused by cup blenders, which do not have the ability to remove the blade from the cup. How does this issue look with juicers? More and more of them have a simple design that allows easy cleaning. In some models, all you need to do is rinse the removable part under water.
Size
Blenders tend to be smaller than slow juicers. Handheld models can easily fit in a drawer, making them perfect for small kitchens.
Volume
Blenders work extremely fast, so they are noisier than slow juicers. This is felt especially when they have to grind a hard product (such as ice). Then you can hear clearly not only the work of the motor, but also the crunching of the product.
Price
One of the most important issues is also the price of the device. Although it is worth taking into account, it should not be the only determinant on the basis of which you decide to buy the product. Slow juicers are usually more expensive, but this price is related to their great durability and what they offer. And they offer a lot indeed. Many of them come with additional adapters that make it so that when you buy one device, you actually have several.
Slow juicer or blender?
When considering what to buy, a cup blender or a slow juicer, there are many aspects to consider. There is no universal answer to the question of which of these devices is better. It all depends on your preferences and what you plan to do with the equipment. So carefully look at the use of each device.
